In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of Leeds is offering one scholarship to Turkish postgraduate students for one year of taught Masters study in Session 2024/25.

Value - what funding is on offer: £10,000 tuition fee deduction for one year of taught Masters study.
Who is eligible: Applicants must be Turkish passport holders.
Deadline: 31 May 2024, 5pm BST
Conditions: These awards are only available to new applicants commencing study at the University of Leeds. Applicants must not be in receipt of funding from other sources that, combined with this scholarship, would be equal to more than 100% of the tuition fee. How to apply
Applicants must have received an offer of a place on a taught programme of study at the University of Leeds before completing the GREAT Scholarship online application form.
Once you have received your Student Application ID and study offer, complete the online application form.
Please email the International Office via internationaloffice@leeds.ac.uk with any queries. Please note, due to the large volume of applications, the International Office can not provide information about the progress of an application until the outcome is decided.
How the scholarships are awarded
Candidates will be selected by the selection panel on the basis of:
- Academic grades – The selection panel will look at previous academic performance and future predicted grades.
- Essay – When completing the online application form, you will be asked to explain (in no more than 500 words) why the University of Leeds should award you a GREAT scholarship and why you would like to study in Leeds.
- Personal statement – when completing the online application form, you will be asked to provide a personal statement (of no more than 500 words) demonstrating your leadership qualities and potential to become a Study UK Ambassador.
Further information
- Applications without a secured offer of a place on a taught Masters course at the University of Leeds will be rejected.
- These awards are only available to taught Masters applicants who are liable to pay academic fees at the international fee rate.
- Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English Language requirements by 22 June 2024. Some Schools require a standard of English higher than the University minimum – check your course page via Course Search for more information. You must have a valid test result, which is no more than two years old by your official start date at the University of Leeds.
Profile of a GREAT Scholar
GREAT scholars must:
- be a citizen of a GREAT target country
- have an undergraduate degree that will enable entry onto a postgraduate programme at one of the UK universities taking part in the GREAT Scholarships campaign
- be motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course
- be active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area
- meet the English language requirement and other academic requirements of the UK HEI
- be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education, by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI
- be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment
- represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships
- be willing to attend events or participate in other activities organised by Study UK and the British Council for all UK-based GREAT scholars, including social media activities to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.
On return to Turkey, a GREAT Scholar:
- is willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education
- is willing to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT scholars
- is as an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about their experience of studying in the UK.
