Facilities for staffWith our dedicated centre for staff and shops and cafes you’ll be well catered for

The benefits of working here are many and varied; here are just a few of the facilities you'll have access to...

Sport and leisure

On campus, take advantage of our new £12.2m state-of-the-art swimming pool and fitness centre. The Edge, which opened in May 2010, is home to:

  • Leeds' largest indoor sports halls with performance floors and lighting
  • a  25m, 8-lane swimming pool with moveable floor
  • the largest fitness suite of any UK university with state-of-the-art equipment
  • 3 dedicated class studios - over 125 classes per week
  • a performance strength and conditioning facility
  • squash courts
  • a climbing wall
  • a whole range of additional facilities to enjoy 52 weeks of the year

You can even enjoy a latte at our own Starbucks cafe after a hard session in the gym!

Just three miles off-campus, the Weetwood playing fields has new and refurbished, high quality pitches for a variety of sports, plus changing rooms and even BBQs. And further a field, the outdoor centres in the Dales and the Lake District make excellent residential bases for groups looking to enjoy the great outdoors.

Libraries

Enjoy free access to one of the UK's largest libraries. Spread over four sites, our University library includes collections of international significance. The library's website also links you to a range of online journals and other resources.

Your staff ID card acts as your library ticket.

IT

We are making computers accessible to all staff. You can use computers, with internet-access, in the LOGIK centre, library, and in cafés around campus. You can also get access to specialist research services.

Transport and parking

Leeds has excellent local transport, and extensive coach and rail services which connect the city with the surrounding areas.

Car parking on campus is limited, and we are also committed to reducing our carbon emissions, so we encourage staff to walk or cycle where possible. We also offer staff discounts on public transport season tickets.

We are committed to providing spaces to disabled staff who need vehicle access to campus.

Childcare

If you have a child, you could benefit from Bright Beginnings, an Ofsted registered centre right here on campus. With room for up to 144 children aged 3 months to 5 years in term time, and also a play scheme for up to 56 children aged between 5 and 11 years in the school holidays, it's a stimulating, safe place for your child.

Staff centre

Pool table in the staff centreThe staff centre is a relaxing, comfortable area open to all University staff. Enjoy lunch away from your desk in the lounge, play a game of pool or watch the big-screen TV. Several staff clubs and societies, and many events from craft fairs to quiz nights are held in the staff centre.

Shops and cafés

There are a wide variety of shops and cafes conveniently located on campus. The Leeds University Union isn't just for students, staff are also welcome to enjoy the bars and cafes, as well as use the convenience store located on the bottom floor.
